Curriculum for Excellence

Our Curriculum for children in the 3-5 room is planned using Curriculum for Excellence and offers children a wide range of learning experiences. The purpose of Curriculum for Excellence is to improve the learning, attainment and achievement of children and young people in Scotland. (see tab on right for more information)
Staff have a sound knowledge of the early level outcomes from this document and are continuously involved in training. Curriculum plans are made on both medium and short-term basis, to ensure the best possible learning experiences for all children and children are consulted on all aspects of their learning.

Pre-birth to Three – Positive Outcomes for Scotland’s Children & Families (see tab on right for more information)
Although there is no formal curriculum for under 3’s, experiences for our younger children are planned based on guidance from the Pre-Birth to Three document. Although plans are made, staff are also responsive to children’s individual needs on a daily basis. Age and stage appropriate activities and experiences are based on the core areas of Respect, Responsive care, Relationships and the Rights of the Child.

Building the Ambition – National Practice Guidance on Early Learning and Childcare (see tab on right for more information)
This recent national guidance focuses on children’s earliest years and sets the context for high quality early learning and childcare and is linked closely to Pre-Birth to Three and Curriculum for Excellence. By using these guidelines to inform our practice we will ensure that staff offer high quality interactions and experiences in a nurturing and caring environment which supports children to develop and learn.
